Associated Press preseason football rankings put UGA at #1
The University of Georgia takes the top spot atop the AP preseason football rankings. UGA took no. 1 over Ohio State. The Bulldogs earned the top spot by recieving one more vote than the Buckeyes. This is the first time ever that the Georgia Bulldogs have ever recieved the AP no. 1 spot. The Bulldogs now are no. 1 according to the USA Today's Coaches poll, the AP poll, and by the Sports Illustrated rankings. Besides the high ratings the Bulldogs are not used to there are other issues surrounding the season that could make supersticious folks uneasy. The UGA Chapel Bell which has been wrung after every home win for some time has been taken down over the offseason and refurbished and the bell tower is completly new. It could be blamed for a bad football season as easily as it could for a good one. The bell is not the only thing that could be blamed for the way the season turns out. Don't forget the Bulldogs mascot UGA VI passed away over this past summer. The new mascot, UGA VII, will be welcomed at the Bulldogs home opener against Georgia Southern on Saturday August 30.
